Psalm 36 Continued…

Psalm 36:10-12 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. See how the evildoers lie fallen — thrown down, not able to rise!

This Psalm ends with a request from this Great God of Hesed Love to be protected from the actions of the wicked. Notice the interesting couplet of the feet and hands of the wicked be completely useless to them in their fallen state (literally) with the last verse.

God can and does protect us from those who would intend to do harm against us. When we are living righteous lives, walking in the truth, living in the light as He is in the light, then God’s will and Word are going forth in this world. Even though, at times, they may try to silence, stifle, even strangle us, ultimately God will always have His way.

Our bodies, they may kill, but God’s truth is living still. We are commanded to not be fearful of those that can only kill our mortal body. We are, however, to hold great fear for God, who has power to send our spirit to hell forever.

But this fear is not aimless or mere cowardice at a wrathful and vengeful God who cannot be appeased. We have seen already the proclamation of his HESED love and how great He truly is. He yields power unlike any other but he is good. Like Mr. Beaver described Aslan to the inquisitive Susan…

“Aslan is a lion- the Lion, the great Lion.” “Ooh” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he-quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion”…”Safe?” said Mr Beaver …”Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” ― C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

And our God, the Lion of Judah is not safe…but he is indeed very, very good!

PRAY

Thank you Father for your great protection for those who live upright lives!

What I Do: I am the Minister of the Word at The Fort. My primary duties are teaching the scriptures and casting a vision for God’s family at The Fort. Interesting Fact About Me: I have felt a call to preach since I was in ninth grade. The Fort is only my second church to serve as a preacher, and, God willing, will be my last. I Choose To Worship At The Fort Because: I believe in the vision of this church, and I trust the leadership of this church. Most of all, though, I love the people of The Fort–their passion, their generosity, and their commitment to the mission of God.
